Outer shell is made of sturdy ABS plastic that resists penetration by falling rock; inner layer features shock absorbing polystyrene foam. Ample vents provide efficient air circulation, and the assertive yellow color maximizes your visibility in all situations. Fore and aft elasticized cords keep a headlamp in place. Hot
Its a lightweight helmet but in the sun i have the feeling that under the Salamander you get a hotspot

A GOOD HELMET TO KEEP YOUR HEAD SAFE
Strengths:
I have had mine for about a year now and have found it great.
It keeps your head safe offering a higher level of protection than ultra light weight helmets.
It fits well and comfortably with good ventilation, I hardly notice I wearing it.
The size can easily be adjusted even wearing glove to put a hat on underneath etc.
The build quality is to the high Grivel standards.
Weaknesses:
It could have more ventilation and be lighter but this can be said about any helmet.
It cost more than many other helmets.
Overall:
I always wear mine whilst climbing and have worn it for long days in the summer and winter.
Update: The shock absorbing polystyrene foam peeled off the inside of my helmet, it was sent back to Grivel who repaired it for free. I was pleased they repaired it for free but a little disappointed it needed repairs in the first place.

Great helmet
This is a great helmet for larger head sizes. I have worn mine for more that 14 hours with out removal and it stayed comfortable. It has survived direct hits with rockfall, and rock walls, and still is in great shape.

Small Problem
The foam on the inside of the helmet peeled off. Otherwise seems to be a good helmet.

I like it!However, Salamander is not as solid as the classic one-shell helmets (e.g. ecrin roc), hence you have to take more care when transporting this helmet.
