Approach


From Highway 89A/179 junction go 1.1 miles across Midgley Bridge to the parking area on the left.
Must pay the $5 Red Rock Pass fee to park here. There are vending machines at the trailhead.

Route Description


There are a few different trails that start here. To get to the Wilson Mountain Trailhead walk around the picnic tables. You will see a bronze plaque set in stone, and two trail signs. Take the Wilson Mountain #10 trail.
The trail to the top is 5.3 miles. The first part of this hike takes you up to the first bench which is 2.8 miles. The hike starts out quite steep. Near the top you start to swichback up and you have little shade.
The second part of this hike takes you to the Tool Shed which is 1 mile. You will start to hike towards the cliffs above you. You start to enter the forest of pines and oaks here. This takes you out of the desart and into the forest. You climb about 500 feet you reach the top of the Plateau. From the top of the Plateau the peak is just north of you. Get off the trail and hike up another 180 feet up the small knoll.
The last segment of this hike is optional which will take you to the North Rim which is the last 1.5 miles. Hike back down from the top back to the trail and take it all the way back. The views from this side of the mountain area spatacular.
