The Wimbachtal side of the Watzmann
The Watzmann, with 2713 meters Germany's second highest mountain, is mainly known for it's formidable east wall, with 1800 meters from base to top the largest wall in the entire eastern Alps. Less "celebrated", but nonetheless impressive is it's west wall, which faces a wild and preserved valley in the National Park of Berchtesgaden, the Wimbach valley (Wimbachtal, see the parent area/range page). While the view upon the east wall from the Königssee is at it's most glorious in the early morning, being in the very middle of the almost 10 km long Wimbach valley in the late afternoon and in the evening can give you breathtaking views upon the west wall!
