Overview

Tall Wall is in the middle of Alabama Hills and is sort of hidden between two tall, towering, narrow rocks. You proceed in between them to get to the routes.

Getting There

From the Town of Lone Pine, take Whitney Portal road for a few miles to movie flat road and turn right, NORTH. You will see Shark Fin off to your left. Keep going down this road until you reach the THIRD turn to the left (WEST). Take this about 1/2 mile back in and Tall Wall will be off to your right hand side.

Route Description

There are several routes on this wall. Almost all of the bolts are in good shape. I've taken a few falls on them and had no worries:

A. Rotten Banana: 5.7 - 9 bolts
B. Bananarama: 5.8 - 9 bolts
C. Banana Split: 5.9 - 1 bolt (gear up to 5" - follow the crack)
D. Tall T: 5.10 - 10 bolts
E. Spur: 5.7
F. Renegade Trail: 5.7 - 6 bolts
G. Rough & Ready: 5.8 - 4 bolts (***fun route***)

THESE NEXT TWO ARE AROUND ON THE SIDE OF THE ROCK
H. Back Trail: 5.6 - 5 bolts
I. 5.9 - 5 bolts

Essential Gear

Depending on the route:

- 7 Quick Draws (some of the routes with more bolts are close together and can be skipped)
- pro up to 5" if you do the crack
- standard sport climbing gear

Parents refers to a larger category under which an object falls. For example, theAconcagua mountain page has the 'Aconcagua Group' and the 'Seven Summits' asparents and is a parent itself to many routes, photos, and Trip Reports.
