ski route from Val di Rhemes

Overview

One of the finest, classic and longest ski mountaneering trips of Val di Rhemes.
This route can normally be done (with skis) in spring and even in winter at least one week after the last snowfall.
It is a long trip, little more than 1700 m of difference in elevation so that can be done only by already well trained skiers.
There are almost no difficulties with the exception of the last steep slopes bringing to the ending ridge.

Una delle più belle e classiche gite di sci alpinismo della Val di Rhemes.
Il miglior periodo per la salita con gli sci è la primavera, ma può essere effettuata anche in pieno inverno dopo almeno una settimana dall'ultima nevicata.
Si tratta di una gita lunga, di poco più di 1700 metri di dislivello e richiede quindi di essere già allenati, anche se non richiede elevate capacità tecniche.

Getting There

From the Motorway of Mont Blanc exit at Aosta Ovest.
Follow toward Courmayeur until Villeneuve, here, along the regional road 24 toward Val di Rhêmes.
Cross the built up areas of Introd, Rhêmes Saint Georges e Rhêmes Notre Dame: once in Bruil you can park the car.

Dall'autostrada A5 del Monte Bianco uscire ad Aosta Ovest e proseguire in direzione Courmayeur. A Villeneuve immettersi nella strada regionale 24 della Val di Rhêmes, passando i comuni di Introd, Rhêmes Saint Georges e Rhêmes Notre Dame: al centro di Bruil si svolta a sinistra e si parcheggia

Route Description

Cross the Dora river and start ascending in the wood along a good mule track/road, on the left side of the valley (ascending) and passing under the Castel del Cucco (a rock with a Cross) go up to the mountain pastures of Entrelor (2142m).
Along the wide valley up to a smaller plan valley (about 2900m) then on the left to avoid steep slopes.
Now along the Entrelor glacier up to a steep slope (maybe dangerous with unsafe snow) bringing to the saddle between the secondary and the main summit.
Here you can take off the skis and on foot, toward right, to the main summit. (the summit can be got even using skis)
Time required for the ascend : 5+ hours

Traversare subito la Dora su un ponte e salire lungo una ampia mulattiera nel bosco, sulla sinistra salendo, passando sotto il Castel del Cucco (spuntone di roccia sormontato da una Croce) e proseguire fino agli alpeggi di Entrelor (2142 m).
Si continua lungo l'ampio vallone fino a una valletta pianeggiante (circa 2900 m) e si devia a sinistra ad evitare pendii ripidi.
Si risalgono ora verso destra i pendii del ghiacciaio di Entrelor.
Si risale il pendio ripido (pericoloso con neve non sicura) che porta alla sella tra l'anticima e la cima.
Qui si possono lasciare gli sci per raggiungere, a piedi verso destra, la vetta. (però si può anche arrivarci con gli sci)
La salita richiede normalmente più di 5 ore
