Welcome in the next generation of Suunto Watches. Packed with all of the great features and quality you've come to expect from Suunto, the new 6 series is updated with improved functionality, accuracy, and new features. The Suunto X6 is specifically designed for Cross Sport applications and features an Altimeter, Barometer, Thermometer, Compass, Watch and PC Downloading (via serial port only currently, and no support for Macintosh). Once your data is downloaded, you can review it with the included software, and upload it to SuuntoSports.com, where you can interact with fellow enthusiasts and organize / participate in virtual competitions (in other words: it took me 6 days to climb Everest, how long did it take you?). You can thereby compare your altitude and other results with other users. Although the body is plastic, the face has been upgraded to mineral glass, and the interface has been completely rewritten and operates similar to a cell phone with graphical displays and a menu systems. This 'watch' was a great addition to my mountian of gear. I use it anywhere from training hikes to multi day mountain trips. The learning curve is worst if you forget the manual but most functions are pretty easy to hack out.

I wish I would of bought the heart rate version to help with training but the deal I got on this a few years ago made it worth skipping the HR feature.

The altitude function works best with regular calibration at known points. That said there are many times I forget to calibrate it and find its still on target from the previous outing.

This watch has the similar drawbacks as the entire line of Suunto products. It has improved on the quality of manufacturing and the watch is not susceptible to damage. The altimeter is more accurate and I found it to be off by a mere 250 feet on average at various intervals during my ascents. With constant calibration this watch will be a great addition for anyone. Its temperature reading still reflects on the skin temperature of the wearer and thus has to be taken off for an accurate measure.

The ability to sync data with the PC is a great addition for training and keeping a log, but itself is not worth the extra money.

Simple Altimeter Watch
Needs to be calibrated often, but tracks pretty well over a short trip. I like it because it fits better than a lot of the other altimeter watches on my wrist, and I wear it most of the time outside of hiking because of the large display - very easy on the eyes.
