Just as almost every other boot on the market, takes a few long hikes to break in. Yet once you've done that, one of the best pairs of boots you can find. I've trudged through 20 yards of shin deep water (with gaiters), but my feet were 100% dry. The Gore-Tex is awesome, but it's true that you're feet do get toasty if you're in 90+ degree weather. They also work well in snow though, just strap on some crampons. Took them to the top of Mt. Baker in late September and they worked perfectly. I highly recommend these boots, especially for long treks. I did 67 miles in 3 days on rugged terrain, and my feet felt great (sort of).

I purchased a pair of Sundowners back in 1993 and loved them to death (literally). I wore them in a variety of conditions while working and playing in New Mexico. They did especially well early summer snow conditions, always keeping my feet dry as a bone after a day of slogging through melting snow. In the dead of winter, though, they would get a bit cold while walking on snow. In summer, they are a bit unbearable due to the goretex sock.
These were very comfortable boots and never gave me problems with blisters or hotspots. They broke in very easily and were an excellent choice for scrambling and peak bagging.
I made the mistake of wearing them when I worked construction during the summers and school breaks, and they finally wore out.

I have used my Sundowners for over 4 years and have put hundreds of miles on them during winter hikes. They still keep my feet warm and dry in the winter months even during snowshoeing. About time for a new pair though!

I've had these boots since 2000 and have had so much trouble with blisters I've basically given up on them :( I like how they look and my best friend likes his but I guess my feet just don't work with them as I haven't been able to "break them in."

On Second Pair
I'm on my second pair, so I guess I must like them. They have kept my feet dry even when hiking the Virgin River Trail at Zion (until I got to the deep part where the water came over the tops!). My only complaint would be that on wet rock they can be very slippery. --mark d.

Classic
These were my first true hiking boots, and I wore them until they gave up on me (about 8 years). The appearance is unassuming and simple, but they wonderfully in all types of conditions. Summer desert hiking is probably a little too warm for these guys, but they excel in almost any other condition. I would recommend these to almost anyone, since they worked on my warped feet I imagine they would work on 95% of the feet out there.

All Time Favorite
This classic boot was my first boot and will probably be my last because I now have owned four pairs. I have used it backpacking, mountaineering, shopping, working etc. One of my favorite features is the Gore-Tex bootie. I have worn out the soles and have had them re-soled as long as the leather is good. Keep this boot available Vasque.

Untitled ReviewMy feet have never been wet or cold, but the boots don't breath very well because of the Gortex. My feet got very hot and sweaty in the Grand Canyon. They also don't climb well. Even though they went to the top of the Grand Teton, I had to watch my footing on the technical stuff. That's ok because for just hiking and backpacking, they are the best. I recommend replacing the factory insole with a Superfeet type of insert. Otherwise, I highly recommend this boot for heavy duty backpacking and hiking.
