Normal Route

Approach

Take the Brenner Motorway A22 to the exit Bozen (Bolzano) South where you take S38 in direction of Meran (Merano) for a short way. Get off on S42 in the direction of Eppian (Appiano) and on to Medelpass (Passo di Mendola). Drive down from the pass and stay on the road until Dimaro where you turn left on SS239. This climbs to Passo Campo Carlo Magno (and on to Madonna di Campiglio). At the pass take the cablecar to Passo Grostè (2442m)where the climb towards Cima Grosè starts.

Route Description

From Passo Grostè you head towards the Mountain using the signed path. But beware! The terrain is rather rugged and you can easily lose the path. Once you get to the base of Cima Grostè however the path is easily found.

From the base you use a couple of more or less narrow ledges and get almost to the summit. Climbing is easy - the only thing to take care of are patches of ice that you even can encounter there in August. Since the ledges are tilting slightly downwards and since there are no cables you really have to be careful.

Some 50m below the summit the ledges end and you need to climb through two narrow, chimneylike couloirs. Again there are no aids the climbing is rugged but relatively easy (1b-2). Having reached the top of the uppermost couloir a few steps take you uo to the summit with a closeup view of the central Brenta peaks.

There is a path downwards (heading south) from Cima Grostè which meets the Ferrata delle Bocchette Alte. You need climbing experience for that one.

Essential Gear

Normal hiking gear is sufficient. The summit is almost 3000m high so bring warm clothes even in summer. Brenta is known for the change in weather and the clouds that hang around the summits in the afternoon. Rain gear might come in useful.
