Overview
Parâng Mountains are the second highest mountain unit in the Romanian Carpathians. They are situated in the SW part of the Southern Carpathians, being flanked by the rivers Strei, Jiu and Olt.

Parâng Mountains has the third highest peak in Romania - namely Parângul Mare with 2 519 meters altitude.

The majesty of the massif is evident because of the fact, that its 30 km long ridge never lowers beneath 2000 meters elevation. The most exciting hydrological objects are the glacier lakes (Câlcescu with 3 ha and Roşiile lake with 3,76 ha being the largest ones).

Parâng Mountains are crossed by the highest road of all in Romania - being known as "Transalpina" reaching 2160 meters altitude in Urdele Pass.
