On October 17, four CMC members set out to make the first recorded descent of the South Fork of Magic Chamber Slot Canyon. Patricipants were Penny Martens, Mark McCray, Kent Beverly, and myself.

I had already been through the main fork of Magic Chamber and we were expecting a similar canyon; in other words it should be great.

The canyon lived up to the expectations. It was full of fun abstacles and was very spectacular. It was a rough scramble into the canyon, but the work soon paid off. The canyon tighened up and became very interesting. There were a few open sections, but it the further down canyon we went the narrower and deeper it got. It also became more difficult the further down we went.

We eventually reached the confluence of the two forks just in time to eat lunch. We then went up and into the Magic Chamber. We spent a while admiring the incredibly spectacular chamber. The group was amazed at the scenery.

We then proceeded down canyon until we could exit on the south side. It was a very steep climb out of the canyon. We then went cross country back to the vehicles. It was a strenuous route, but well worth the effort.

We will return!
