I shot this video of an ascent (and ski descent) of Torreys Peak. We ascended
The Emperor - an extremely long couloir on the north side of the peak. Roach calls it one of the longest snow climbs in the state.
The weather was good and the snow conditions were decent. We topped out of "The Emperor" at the exact same spot as Dead Dog Couloir on Kelso Ridge. After that we made the quick jaunt to the summit before beginning our descent of the mountain.
To descend we scrambled about 500' down Torreys' Northwest Face before Brian and Eric began their ski descent. Up high on the face the snow wasn't that great for skiing - crusty slabs mixed with sections of deeper powder. The snow conditions improved as we descended and by the bottom of the face both Brian and Eric were getting in some really nice turns. I was even able to get in a couple of quality glissades myself.
Good times.
