Scouting
My boy & I needed a weekend out to camp somewhere lovely, bust out our fluffy sleeping bags and ride something rad. So we headed out to Carson Pass, stopping for sushi in South Lake. We arrived at the trailhead around midnight, skinned up, got good and lost, and set camp. The next morning, we cruised toward Round Top and saw the sweet lines of the Crescent and, off in the distance, something equally gnarly.
We set up camp near the lake below whatever the gnarly something was in the distance. Twin Peaks or the Sisters maybe? Pretty swank campsite.
Riding
We needed to test the snow to decide what line we wanted to ride Sunday, so we cruised up the saddle to the west of Round Top, and scrambled up the "pimple" to the right of the saddle and rode down the chute on its face.
The snow turned out to be less than ideal, so we decided against the bigger lines. We'd come back for them when they were corned up. Or maybe we were just being pansies. But either way, the next morning made the decision for us with high winds and snow. We cruised out to hit some more fun little cliffy areas on the ridge to the right as you're skinning up the valley.
Overall, super fun trip, but less than desirable snow & weather. We'll be back.
