An easy peak after wussing out on Kitchener on a cold morning. This is a great value-for-effort peak, with just a bit of scrambling and excellent views of the Icefield peaks and Sunwapta valley. Trip report.

Cannot beat this summit view!
First time up this peak, Sept. 19, 1996 with Ian Hunt. Been up a few more times back in the 1990's. Incredible summit views.
This was the 6th peak of our hiking extravaganza. I had some trouble when I decided to follow a well-defined path which traverses the final slope rather than staying near the crest. I learned never to trust multiple cairns in Alberta. After backtracking, I found my way to the summit. There was only one short scramble section which seemed a bit sketchy.

After being soaked all night long in the camp we decided to leave Athabasca for next time and go up Wilkox, witch was a really good decision. Amazing views from the summit.

Skied up most of the way. Roped up working the snow and cornices along the ridge up top. This as an early experience in the alpine for me and I abolutely loved it.

Mount Wilcox
2 hours to the summit, 3.5 total from the Icefield Parkway Center. One of the quickest trips in Kane's book. Trying to squeeze in one more before a big front moves in a ton of fresh snow. As you can see from the photos, the Icefields are starting to kick up some stuff. One easy and quick scramble with enough snow and exposure to make it a moderate. One lone ram came running all the way over to me from quite the distance, to where I could reach out and touch him. He was just incredibly curious. Eventually walked right by me.
Hot summery conditions for fall, with forest fire smoke filling the valley. Warm and windless at the summit. A short scramble with exceptional views - recommended!

scramble route
some snow on the route made the scrambling a bit sketchy at times as it was a lot steeper and more exposed than I thought it would be. Bushwhacked on the way up but found a trail on decent through the forest for the most part. Nice view all around on a sunny calm day. Kind of cool to see the glacier from that viewpoint and all the tourist on it.
Everything people said it was! Awesome views towards the icefield, but also awesome views of Wilcox Pass! It's boggling to imagine the size of the glacier that once carved out the pass.
