Amazing photo! This is such a beautiful picture... even though it eats corpses, the vulture is still a cool bird.

Re: Amazing photo! Thanks you, Mark! It is Nature's vacuum cleaner!!! They fly south for the winter, down to South America somewhere. Then they come back in the Springtime. So, I guess you could call them "Part-time Vacuum Cleaners." Whatever we call them ... THEY ARE amazing birds!!!

Stunning.I've always liked vultures. They are phenomenal animals. And I can always count on seeing a vulture when I go hiking in the mountains.

Re: Stunning.Hello, Bob! My thoughts exactly! I am one of those who can withstand lots of heat, and when I am recreating in the desert ... I often look up to discover my summertime friends "circling" high above me. It's almost like ...
they are WAITING for something! : > )

Gracias, amigo! Glad to hear you're still okay.
Gotta love vultures! In Arizona, they signal
the coming of long warm days of heat and
sudden thunderstorms in the desert.

Thank you...It's only because of votes he's been getting! I'm just wanderin' around in the desert, trying to keep away from Turkey Vultures for now. Actually, I'm waiting for my dear wife to come back from the Philippines. She wanted me to fly the 14,000 (plus) mile round trip with her, and I said my arms would become too tired.
Have a nice weekend, Ice Man Jerry! :)
(P.S. - I'm training my Turkey Vulture to snatch VOTES off other pictures!!!
Geez... what a turkey!!! !!!)) :)

Giant bird!I just watched a show on the history channel about giant birds being spotted in Illinois, Alaska, and Texas. There was even a guy who said that he was picked up by one when he was 10 yrs old. They said it looked like a condor......suspicously like your picture. Mmmmmmm....

Re: Giant bird! Thanks! I missed that show on the History
Channel. I must have been outdoors or
something. I have seen these birds in AZ
many times. One time, I saw one with a
snake dangling from its talons. The snake
looked suspicously like the one you were
handling on Mt. Olympus! Take care! :)))

Re: Giant bird! Thanks - I DO need to do further research on the "mysterious accounts" of the so-called Thunderbird.
Growing up American, the only Thunderbird I
was associated with was the Ford Thunderbird!
Have a good 'un, Sir!!

You ought to come down here sometime. You
won't be disappointed!

CleverI have no experience with vultures. From the thumbnail, I thought you had a picture of Icarus.

Re: Clever ...Well sir. I had no experience with Canon
Digital cameras, until I bought one.
What a mind-blower! Anyway, guess there's a
"first time" for everything.
Have a great upcoming weekend, and loads of
thanks for at least noticing the Vulture.
(They tend to 'circle around' when you least expect them to do so! Have a nice day ...)

Re: Majestic!Camas? I was born in Tacoma! Howdy, neighbor!
I decided to add a bit of color to the vulture, because even "vacuum cleaners"
deserve to be pleasing to the eye.

InterestingI watched a couple of these birds sitting on the summit block of Mt. Olympus. They would just sit there with their wings spread, for at least 20 min. Anybody know why they do this?
Great photo.
