Came here after visiting Dixie Butte. My Dakota did ok on the approach road but was stopped by a snow bank about 200 ft below the top. After visiting the summit, had to back about a 1/4 mile down the road to find a spot to turn around. Saw mountain goats along summit ridge.

cool and breezy
this road is in pretty good shape. There was some fairly recent snow but lots of hunters out there have the road packed down. I ended up driving to 7600ft and made a quick dash to the summit. It was windy and cold with some fog so I did not linger long. Maybe a little long of a drive from Boise for such a short hike, but always nice to get a summit in November

Drive Up
If you have a 4x4, do it. It was a blast. Usually I get a little annoyed at the bumpy ride but this one made me wonder if I could make it to the top. It was a blast and I drove right to the top.

First Fall Snow
Great summit, drove to the top in the middle of the first snow storm of the season. Still a lot of fun!

Nice view of clouds and snow
Left after work on the 9th and drove within a few hundred feet of the summit. The cloud layer was below the summit and as I signed the summit log it began to snow heavily. I'll have to go back to enjoy the view.

Land Cruiser route
A running joke is the boys tell me we have turn around and I respond 'no way, we're in a Land Cruiser'. Such was the case on this ascent. The Land Cruiser got us within a couple of hundred yards from the top and we quickly made the remainder of the ascent on foot.

Love those obscure peaks in such a sparsely populated region.

Nice views
Did this one with fellow SP'ers Bob Bolton and Dennis Poulin. We drove to about a mile from the top and walked the last bit to the summit area. Enjoyed the views of the surrounding area which isn't well known by those outside of Eastern Oregon.

Southwest Ridge Route
My dad dropped me off near the Morning Mine as the road was blocked repeatedly by fallen trees from that point on. While my dad explored the mining site I made a mad dash for the summit. I hiked and jogged up the road until reaching the cattle guard then slogged up the ridgeline until reaching the summit two hours after setting out. Beautiful view from the summit, just enough snow on the mountain to make things interesting. Upon return my dad shown me some of the mining wreckage he found around the mine site and the awesome creek blasting out of the hillside. Definitely one of my favorite eastern oregon hikes I have done.

Back up here to climb the Greenhorn monolith on the east ridge after checking out Indian Rock.
