"As an adolescent I aspired to lasting fame, I craved factual certainty, and I thirsted for a meaningful vision of human life - so I became a scientist. This is like becoming an archbishop so you can meet girls."

Climbed with the kidsHas quite a bit of elevation gain, so the kids did need quite a few breaks.

2nd Peak of the DayGreat summit with lots of rocks to climb around on. Hiked Turk after doing Humpback Rocks.

Turk MountainOne of my first climbs in Shenandoah NP. Fairly easy, with some fun scrambling at the summit. There is also a nice east-facing outcrop on the way to the summit that is worth checking out.

Late AfternoonThanks to this page, I checked out Turk Mountain, and wasn't disappointed. Nice views and fun rocks.

The White TurkWe managed to squeeze this one in on our way out of the park. It was well worth it. Scrambling on the pale rocks was a nice treat.

Turk MountainWe did the Mooreman's River Trail as a shuttle and then did Turk Mountain. Nice views from the summit. I think I might have also done it about 35 years earlier.

Turk MountainWe did the shorter version of this hike starting from the Turk Mtn Gap parking area. It was a lovely hike and we loved the first overlook even better than the summit. There was a swarm of bugs hanging around the place we chose to sit at the summit, they looked like ants with wings (don't know my bugs) and my friend heard a buzzing noise which he thought might be a wasps nest so we didn't hang around there too long. I think the first overlook (0.1 miles from summit) would be a better place for lunch anyway, but both had excellent views.

2nd summit of the dayWe did Humpback Rocks earlier in the day. Turk Mountain was a more rigorous hike. We didn't know the view from the summit would be so great. We were pleasantly surprised.
