Kelso Ridge
Fun route with DonnieB, Jeff & Jim (from Atlanta), and Chris (from Tulsa). Met a fun group of college kids from KY.
Went on to Grays Pk, "The Rascal", and Kelso Mtn afterward.
Good times.

W/ ascent of Grays
Started from Horseshoe TH around 10,500 (my Saab did not like the road). Long walk up the road and quick ascent up SW slopes to Grays, then down and up to Torreys. Long descent back over the top of Grays and down to the car.

Lots of people
Grays/Torreys just like millions of others. But at least I signed the climber's log on summitpost!

Kelso Ridge Again
First ones up Kelso ridge of the day, except for the 7 summiteer who passed me and my friend. We hit the buttress head on this time which made things more interesting. Knife edge is a blast.

Rainy Day
Summitted with some dark clouds fast approaching, started down, got hit with lots of rain and hail, but no lightning or thunder. I got to use my rain gear for only the second time on a fourteener, all in all a very nice day.

Stevens Gulch TH Ascend Grays N Slopes, S Slope to Torreys
Third time's the charm. Sleet and bad weather turned us back on two previous attempts. This time we were rewarded with perfect weather and lots of friendly nanny and baby goats on the trail.
Second to Torreys, of course. Didn't know if I could handle both on the same day since these were my first, but I think if you're in sound shape and have the proper motivation, it's definitely doable.

Grays and Torreys
Great day of hiking, going up the Kelso Ridge is highly recommended for those who don't mind class 3 climbing.

Did the easy hike up Grays, then rode the saddle over to Torreys, making my 7th official 14er (also did Mt Cameron between Democrat and Lincoln but it's like 20 ft short of being "official"). Anyway, it was a great little hike from the saddle! Of course it was almost standing room only at the top, but my day was made by 2 guys who summitted without shirts or packs and very little supplies. Reminded me of Bill and Ted from "Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure." Also, it was strange that I got 4 bars for cell service but couldn't complete a call. Oh well, except that I forgot to tell the wife which peaks I was climbing today. OOOPS! Anyway, I hiked back down to a little bit of cloud cover but no precipitation until I hit the car. AWESOME DAY!

Crowds? Try it on a snowy, sleety, socked in day like I did. Bye-bye crowds.
