"So I was sitting in my cubicle today, and I realized, ever since I started working, every single day of my life has been worse than the day before it. So that means that every single day that you see me, that's on the worst day of my life."

Route Climbed: Kelso Ridge Date Climbed: August 2003This route would be an excellent intro to third class ridge scrambling for anyone interested. The fourth class sections that exist are avoidable with patient route finding (but fun and short if you feel up to the challenge), and the knife-edge crux is short, easy and exhilirating at the same time. Just don't knock any rocks down into Dead Dog couloir. Climbed this with a coating of new snow on the shaded north side of the ridge, and ticked off Gray's while we were there. (Might as well, right?)

Route Climbed: Emperor to Northwest Face Date Climbed: June 12th, 2005Shallow new layer on frozen slush, pretty good steps until the top. Both couloirs are a little thin on snow in spots. Wintry conditions.

Route Climbed: Gray's Peak Trail Date Climbed: 6/9/05After summiting Gray's took the saddle over to Torrey's. The snow was excellent, as was the weather. Fun time all around.

Route Climbed: kelso ridge Date Climbed: May 28 2005Most likely class 4 with rope highly recomended. We did it all without rope and did ok but for less experienced, bring rope.

Route Climbed: Kelso Ridge Date Climbed: September 3, 2004Our plan was to climb Torreys via Kelso Ridge. Sounded pretty simple especially in september. Our plan was foiled by on of the worst blizzards i've ever seen and we had to turn back at 13,00 ft. See trip report.

Route Climbed: Stevens Gulch Trailhead Date Climbed: June 30, 2004After summiting Grays, we headed to Torreys. Good stuff as always, only it started to sleet & rain on the way down & both summits had no visibility. Oh well, it's still always great to do a hike!

Route Climbed: Kelso Ridge Date Climbed: July 21, 2004Kelso ridge is an awesome route. Most of it is class 2 but the class 3 scrambling is fun. Some exposure (especially when youre right above the Dead Dog Couloir. Fun alternative, and the summit is more rewarding.

Route Climbed: Kelso ridge Date Climbed: July 9 2004We started hiking about 8:00am. I was tired but moving along OK. Bill and I split up and went towards the ridge. The ridge was fun but the route finding was a little difficult. We got to the summit around 11:20 or so. I took off and met the students at the saddle. We hiked down and did some glissading. That was a blast. We got back to the car around 1:15. Bill and I went to the Red Ram saloon in George Town.

Route Climbed: Grays Torreys combo Date Climbed: Sept 2001Started at 6:00am. Jim didn’t take food, was sick. We were both hungover. Grays at 10:30 then Torreys. Snowed on the way back, Pretty easy hike.

Route Climbed: Kelso Ridge / Grays Peak Trail Date Climbed: July 2002Torreys Peak just looks wicked! But it sure is a fun hike! The Kelso Ridge solo was a blast, but the Grays Peak trail with my dogs was the best. Milo the mountain dog and Abe the hard charger bagged both Grays and Torreys.

Route Climbed: South Slopes Date Climbed: July 6, 2004Hiked both Grays and Torreys, the wind had a nasty bite, but the clear skies allowed amazing views. A lot of Mtn. Goats along the trail, passed 52 hikers on the way down and one stray dog following a group of hikers to the top.

Route Climbed: Kelso Ridge from Stevens Gulch TH Date Climbed: August 21, 1983This was another climb w/ the CMC, but I enjoyed the ridge route so much that I took friends onto it several years later again. This is the beautiful skyline that many people see on their way up I-70, and it is a classic, just like Gerry Roach says.
