Solo climb up Kelso. Didn’t see anybody else! Some good scrambling that is not too difficult. The knife edge is actually very short and the first half is not very exposed. The rock is loose in some places but bomber where it counts. Fun climb. Continued to Grays. 4:18 car-to-car.

Easy walk up, even after 5 hours' sleep in 2 nights and 3 consecutive days heavy drinking (thank you GABF). Much colder and windier on Grays than on Torreys. I was very surprised at the number of people. Although we started around 5 a.m., it was a bit of a conga line and we met quite a few people heading up even when we got back to the trailhead around 11:30 (we spent about an hour on the summit of Torreys).
Also, I counted at least 8 people playing music through external speakers, either on their phones or via Bluetooth. If you are this person...don't.
Perfect day for a hike. No clouds in the sky and no wind on the ridges. Ascended via the standard route. Parked our car near the highway and bummed a ride up and back down from about a mile from the trailhead. Fall colors galore!

Kelso Ridge
Unique summit #100.. kinda cool, i guess?
The ridge is a fun route. Would be much more so had I been in any kind of altitude shape! 1st of season is always a lung burner (when you live at 600ft). 3-4 sections of fun climbing. Knife edge is really not that big a deal, unless you just have never experienced any kind of exposure before. Worst part of the route is the sections of just soul-crushing sandy scree..
I'll probably do it again at some point so I can bag Gray's as well. Weather came in.

It was remarkable how much easier it was ascending from the saddle to Torreys compared to just the last couple hundred feet of Grays. I guess it takes some shocking your body to the altitude for it to not hate you every step.

Fresh dusting of snow on Grays and Torreys
After some fresh snow the night before, I had the area to myself. Was able to follow the trail most of the time, but lost it occasionally due to snow drifts. Super windy up high made for quite the adventure. Blue skies and beautiful. Parked about a mile below the summer trailhead. 8 hours round trip for both peaks. Trip Report

Torreys
Kimberly and I hiked Torreys Peak, a Colorado 14er. As expected, it was very crowded, but still a nice hike anyway. We saw four marmots and many pikas. This was Kimberly's first 14er since her heart surgery, so we didn't do Grays.
