Eötvös Loránd hut was opened in 1898 at Dobogókő, which was a remote place then - a rock in the forest. Due to its rising popularity, the second
Eötvös Loránd hut was built and opened in 1906.

(
note: Baron Eötvös Loránd, the inventor of the torsion pendulum was a remarkable mountaineer, having first-climbed several peaks in the Alps.)
