september snow
much more september snow than i've seen in awhile on this hike. we even used ice axes on the northern slope leading to the citadel's upper east ridge. certainly made the traverse to hagar spicy and interesting!
Up the gully. The direct line from the south looks better, actually, as long as the snow is minimal. The gully is pretty easy just loose and not super fun. The crux is 3rd class, and easy, but descending it feels harder as you are perched over the gully and some of the holds seem fragile, though numerous bombers exist. On the approach from the lake, take a diagonal line towards the scree field right of the falls in the basin you are aiming to cross. I marked ithe line over with decent cairns.. This climb was solo in good weather.
Combo from Dry Gulch, second time up these peaks, but first time together. Fun connecting ridge with some easy 3rd class.
Repeat of this route on 11/12/16 with Racael, 4th time up each of them.

Northeast Face
Windy and COLD conditions stuck in the shadows on thenorthern aspect. Holding more snow up high than thought. Summit was a bit spicy with snow. Great scramble though! Comboed with Hagar.
There used to be one by Aaron Johnson but he deleted all his stuff and everyone's submissions on Hagar was deleted. Would be great if you put up a new Hagar page!

Fun!
Went with Natalie from Herman Gulch (basically Cooper's route). Came prepared for the traverse to Pettingell. But with just 3.5 hours sleep after doing Vermilion, Golden Horn, and Fuller the previous day, I just wanted to get home. We'll do the traverse another time.
09/30/07: Hiked with the pup and wife. Cool summit.
09/11/10: Combined Bethel, Citadel, Hagar, Golden Bear and Trelease for a real nice day out.

From Herman Gulch
Took a steep gully, that wasn't the standard route. Very enjoyable even though the rocks were very loose.
Got to the Eastern summit and then down climbed to the saddle between both summits. Summited the West summit as well.

East Ridge via Herman Gulch
The wildflowers in this basin were just going BONKERS! Beautiful! Had a fine adventure wondering in the area between Herman Lake and the East Ridge wondering WhereTF are we going? but knowing we would get there. Ascended the wrong drainage, which was a bunch of loose, steep junk and nothing, I mean NOTHING was attached to that mountain. Summited the east peak, then downclimbed to the notch to climb the west peak. Beautiful day!
