2011 Sierra Challenge
With Crater Crest . . . great hike in an area that was new to me.

Tamarack
Climbed Tamarack as part of Bob Burd's 2011 Sierra Challenge. Most of us started from the trailhead at Twin Lakes. From Hunewill lake I followed others up the snow-free ridge to the north of Crater Crest then followed the crest up to the summit. For the descent I started back down the crest but took a shorter route toward Hunewill, down a snow field that was a bit steep and scary for me.
Burd and my brother Jon cramponed up the steep snow couloir
that cuts diagonally across the face of Tamarack -- way too steep for me! Everyone else took routes on either side of the peak.
Round trip about 13 miles with 4,600' total elevation.
