Re: Beautiful!!Thanks! It was cloudy most of the time I was there and we could not see the summit. It was exciting when the clouds finally cleared to give us a glimpse of what lay hidden for so long.

Alpenglow !Magnificent!!! I didn't even know that the
great city of Chicago had a mountaineering club! Guess that shows you what I know about my own country. When I was living in Washington state, I was active with the Tacoma Mountaineers. Those were great days!!!

Re: Alpenglow !Thanks for the vote!
The CMC is a relatively small but very friendly group. They're very supportive of beginner climbers and not the least bit political. The club actually has a rich history, with some notable past members such as the Stettner brothers, Paul Petzoldt, Joseph Hawkes, Earl Clark, and Harold Plumley. (The later 4 made the first ascent of the CMC route on Mt Moran in GTNP.)
Sven Olof Swartling, author of Climber's Guide to Devils Lake, is also a current member of the club. In addition, Pete Cleveland, while not a current member, attends most of the CMC outings at Devil's Lake.

Okay ...I just learned some things! Sounds like an enjoyable group to belong to! I know a couple
that lives up in northern Minnesota; they are
retired but harvest sugar beets up there. In the summer, they HOST at CHIPPEWA NF. Then, they migrate down to AZ for the winter.
Right now, they're hosting at beautiful Roosevelt Lake just south of Payson, AZ ... Thanks!
