It's been a while since I've heard people worry about the tundra. In the NE, the warning was ubiquitous; and even near Humphrey's in AZ, Agassiz is off-limis unless there is snow cover.
In the drier SW, timberline ares don't have much but rocks and sparse plants. White Mountain even has sage above 12000'!
