Cold summer day
Got brain freeze from breathing in the cold air on the way in. Lovely day for hiking. There were two pups running around the summit looking for pets while their parents were up on the tower.

Finally up Stratton
Spent many years skiing stratton as a kid. My recent return to VT for grad school allowed time to finally hike up on a beautiful October day.
Doing it in snowshoes drained some of the fun out of the hike, especially with two people in boots post holing their way to within a mile of the summit ahead of me. The mileage is listed as 3.4 miles at the base but is correctly listed as 3.8 miles at the summit tower.

Route Climbed: Stratton Pond Loop
Did an 11.5 mile loop of the hike. Trail was ok, views were great from the tower. The pond was also stunning, given the solitude that graced us when we arrived.

LT Sobo
The peak was nice but it was all about Stratton Pond for me. All the ponds along the LT were worthwhile.

Stratton Mountain
Climbed via the Appalachian Trail from Arlington Road. A fun hike and a good one to complete in around half a day. Nice views of the Green Mountains and the Taconics from the fire tower on the summit. Found some more good views on North Peak by the ski runs.

Along the LT
Climbed this mountain while treking the entire Long Trail. It was a fun mountain and it beat a case of the blues I had during a wet, foggy morning. Yet, the top was magnificent.
What a cool spot to sit and think about all the other hikers who have passed by. Imaging James P. Taylor and Benton MacKaye standing in the same spot and invisioning the Long Trail and Appalachian Trail is an awesome feeling. Had a great night camping at Stratton Pond with two guys who had taken a vow of silence. It was like a non-stop game of charades. Had a great paddle on the pond with the caretaker assigned there that summer.

Did it
The mountain itself was a little bit of a let down for me, but the area was beautiful. Since this was the mountain that the LT/AT were concieved on, i was glad to be there, but I, myself find many other mountains more inspiring. Hiked Lye Brook trail 9 miles to Stratton pond camp, set up camp and summited same day. returned following day to Lye Brook trailhead.I will have a Trail description soon.

Perfect day for a hike. Climbed to the top of the fire tower, got dizzy, took some pictures. Can't wait to go back and do the full loop. I would love to see the summit in the winter too...
On this miserable trip, where it was cold and wet the entire 3 days, only I elected to backpack over the mountain of the entire group. Everyone else hiked around it. But, I was rewarded with views from the top as when I got to within 100 vertical feet of the summit I popped out of the drizzle and white-out to clear sunny dry summit conditions. Ha! Don't cha just love cloud inversions.

Did an overnight at the 3-wall shelter at Stratton Pond after our snowshoe to the summit of Stratton Mountain. I believe that it dipped to around 12 F that night and the 3-wall shelter was pretty chilly. Next time I may use the tent to trap a bit of our body heat!
