Hiked with Bill from Star City up the NE ridge to the summit. Descended the west access road down through ElDorado canyon all the way to I-80. Matthew and Bob drove around to pick us up after going from Star -> Thunder and back to the car.

Ridge Traverse from Sacred Point
Hiked from the old Star City site up to Sacred Point to Thunder Mountain, Van Vant Peak then over to Star Peak. I was really impressed by the area. Flowers were blooming and the creeks were flowing. The traverse from Van Zant to Star Peak is very fun. There was one section of an easy class 3 knife edge ridge. Natural arches on the peaks are pretty cool too. I hiked with Greg D on a really long day out of Sacramento.

Star City Canyon
Snow still lingering from weather systems that hit over the Memorial Day weekend. About 6-8" along the ridge line beginning at the 9000' saddle. Great views at the top and interesting remains at the bottom around the Star City site.

El Dorado Canyon
The road into El Dorado Canyon, which had been washed out in 2006, was passable in my Nissan Pathfinder in 2007. I drove up past the Blackjack Mine to where the snow started around 7000 feet, and then walked the rest of the way to the summit.

North east ridge
I went up the ridge that is between the Silver Star and DeSoto Mines. No trail until hitting the saddle at 9097 and then it is simple up to the summit. Interesting antenna structure along the way. Lots of low lying brush to deal with on the route I chose and I wouldn't want to do it during tick season. 4000 foot gain from where I parked near the old Star City site. I walked up past the Queen of Sheba mine. Great weather and some Chukar hunters down on the roads. Had some snow on the summit due to a storm that had hit a week before. That was strange but one of my pics shows some of the snow on the way up.

The climb is much more nice from the south. It was windy on top but not too cold. If you take this route you can see some natural arches on the way up that not too many people know about.

This one day climb is very straightforward but very rewarding at the top. Excellent views, no snow, and a few old mine shafts. Just watch out for the sheep on your way up!

I drove my 4Runner to the switchback at 8,400 feet and parked. This gave me a 1400-foot climb to the summit of Pershing County. Perfect weather, clear air, great views. This was my 8th and last 5000-foot+ prominence peak in 8 days.
