I'll be attempting this peak in a few days, on May 14. Not solo though. Question - how important were the crampons? A friend did it last year in May with just boots and poles.
Sorry I didn't get back to you fast enough. The snow has likely receded even more since I went up, but the crampons were essential above the switchback area. I think I put them on at around 12,000 feet or so. The route along the west face above this level has a large exposure, and a slip would likely be serious or fatal without crampons to prevent it or an ice axe to self arrest.
