Awesome!

Great report. So the second highest mountain in the state CAN be done with only a little snow. Now you have earned some serious self-respect when it comes to volcanoes. Mt. Adam's was the most fun I had in a single trip last year. I look forward to our next trip.

Congratulations!!!

You did your research and you were successful. It's an awesome feeling.
Perhaps you will now also be known as "YakimaKing". ;-)

Does this mean you are ready to tackle bigger and better peaks?

Re: Congratulations!!!

Yeah I am mentally ready. I now want to do some crevasse training before Rainier, Hood and Baker. One of those I am likely to take a course. I loved to do Rainier by next summer. It is strange and actually almost upsetting to keep staring a peak daily that you have not climbed yet.

As for Shasta, Whitney, many Colorado peaks and Pico de Orizaba, they are fair game. I'd like to do Orizaba by December 10'. I like to also branch a little into the North Cascades more as well.

Conditioning is the key though and Mount Adams was a fresh reminder of that. I lost 40 pounds in the past year and a half not by diet but by consistant going out and hiking rain, snow or shine.

Re: Congratulations!!!

From experience, I will tell you the free REI courses for climbing Mount Rainier are VERY informative. Each year, they have three different 1-2 hour courses (one course per month). I think one course is for conditioning/training, one course is for gear, and one course is for routes and climbing suggestions. I believe the courses will start again next February or March.

Re: Congratulations!!!

Thanks,

I plan on taking some kind of course, rather with the Mountaineers, OSAT and probably combine with REI. I want to summit Rainier next year and will need all the education, and conditioning I can get.

Congrats!

I'd really hoped to finally get up Adams this year, but it wasn't meant to be.

Congrats on your successful outing.

Re: Congrats!

Thanks, It is a great summit and a great steping stone. I feel like it is time to open my eye to other possiblilties now. Now that I have crossed this path I need to continue. Just remember the mountain here is good even after the glissade is gone.
