Route Climbed: Range Trail Date Climbed: July 31, 2005
This peak has some astonishing views of the Gothics and Keene Valley. I hiked it by myself and, when I first was unable to scale the western cliffs, started to freak out knowing that a retreat would mean doubling back over Basin, a bad thing as the day was getting late. Fortunately I found a way up the shear rock face, although I was scared!
The dip between the two summits looks pretty serious but is really not bad at all in difficulty.
I think an additional ladder or two would increase the safety of the western approach.
Route Climbed: Garden, SSC, Basin, up Saddlebback Date Climbed: 25 March 2005
After climbing Basin (my 46th), Mike F. and I headed for Saddleback - short trip but spooky scramble up the ~100 or so foot rock face. Great weather and views from both Basin and Saddleback... one of the best trip I've ever had in the ADK!
Route Climbed: trail from west side Date Climbed: july 1992
last peak which we did by accident after marcy/haystack and basin in one day without enough water- first introduction to scrambling - scared me a bit but looking back - glad I did it.
Route Climbed: Range Trail from Basin Date Climbed: July 21, 2004
Hiked to Saddleback for Number Eight with the brother and sister after hitting Basin. This is a fun climb, although quite steep and a tad nerve-wracking at times. Some nice scrambles.
I wanted to do Gothics real bad, but time ran out for us. There's always next time.
Route Climbed: Ore Bed Brook Trail; the ADK Range Trail Date Climbed: Sep 2, 2001
This is one rough hike by usual standards for maintained trails. The trail can be somewhat difficult to follow in cetain places along Ore Bed Brook. The upper reaches of the ADK Range trail on this peak are closer to 3rd class scrambling than to a walk-up.
Route Climbed: From Johns Brook, over Basin Mt. Date Climbed: July 20, 2002
Views are average for the high peaks (which is still good), but the climb is scary steep and a blast to make. A 100' rock climb that is pretty scary, but alot of fun.
I would plan for an ascent of the west face instead of a descend, particularly with packs. It pretty steep, and borders on Rock climbing instead of hiking for about 100' of the ascent.

Route Climbed: Range Trail and down The Orebed Tr. back to camp Date Climbed: 5/25/96The last peak of a 5 peak day. We were bushed, but satisfied. The true summit is the one closer to Basin.

Date Climbed: Sometime in the 90'sThis was a tough one in full pack in the rain. I remember being on the steep section and seeing nothing but clouds above and below me.
