"As an adolescent I aspired to lasting fame, I craved factual certainty, and I thirsted for a meaningful vision of human life - so I became a scientist. This is like becoming an archbishop so you can meet girls."

Time to Set Up the Tent...How do I do that again?!?Camping in J-Tree with my significant other on Valentine's Day weekend was the first time I ever camped...and Ryan mountain was one of the first mountains I ever climbed.

Worth the extra stepsBeing an inveterate peak bagger, I had to continue to the summit after climbing Walk on the Wild Side, much to the disdain of my purist companions.

Great Night HikeWe did this as a night hike from the campground at Sheep's Pass. Really neat way to summit this little mountian and viewing the halo lighting of the Coachella Valley.

an hour to spare at sunsetMy dad and I were in the area and had about an hour to spare so we ran up just in time to take in the sunset at the top. Beautiful views of the desert below.

2xThis was my first hike in southern California after moving there in August 1999. I hiked up Ryan Mountain on a very hot day and saw several equally hot women on the trail all hiking solo. As this was my first hike in the region, I couldn't help but wonder if all the regional trails would be populated by gorgeous women. This turned out to be a hasty generalization.
