Overview

These are pics from my day hike to Red Rock Canyon State Park near California City, CA.
Have more pics to upload

Getting There

Red Rock Canyon
Take the CA 14 freeway North (LA trippers) past Rosamond and you'll see signs posted for the State Park. About 2-3 miles before the turn off for the Park you should see a rusty ole UFO on the right side of the road. Only if you're coming from LA area. If you're coming from the North again hit the CA 14 freeway South until you see posted signs. I live on Edwards AFB so i came up from the South. Very well posted so no worries on missing it.

Red Tape

No Red Tape that I know of. I pulled off to the trail parked and took off on my adventure. I do believe they have fee's for camping though. I saw several other cars in the lot and nobody had any special passes.

Camping

There is camping down the road from the Hagen Trail. Didn't go to the site so I can't elaborate on it.

This will take you right to the state park website.

Trailhead

Red Rock

Once you get inside the Canyon you'll see a sign that says Hagen Trail. It's approximately a 2 mile loop thru the desert canyon. What makes it nice is that someone has lined up rocks to show the Trail Path. It was cool but what's even better is that the park isn't huge so venturing out on your own is very easy. I have pictures of the trailhead sign that I will post.

Hence the Name of the Park

Beautiful Red Rocks combined with whites and tan, just awesome to play around in.

You can totally lose several hours in this small yet exciting canyon

Egypt and Badlands

I took a picture of this rock formation from a small cliff and when i got home i swear it looks like an old Egyptian Pharoh.

Look to the right and let me know what you think
Red Rock
I found these rocks very similar to the Badlands of South Dakota. They were even more fun to play around on.

Already a page

A canyon page already exists for this spot: http://www.summitpost.org/red-rock-canyon-california/396152.

You probably should change this to an album or develop the story of your visit into a trip report.
