Blue Ridge Rd/Devil's Backbone
The Backbone and exposed areas all now clear of snow, once in the trees still plenty but easy to navigate around by just heading up to the summit. Views for the day were amazing of Baldy, Baden- Powell and Iron Montain. On the hike back up from the south side saw some of the elusive Nelson Big Horn Sheep from a distance.

Kinda cold
It was 32F at the trailhead on Blue Ridge Road when I parked. I thought it would be warmer on Memorial Day weekend! Still, a nice day and a pleasant hike for a Sunday morning. Didn't see anyone else until I was almost back to the car. Nice views of Baden-Powell and Baldy along the way.

Route Climbed: Acorn trail Date Climbed: December 10, 2005
Hiked with AlanK & son, Richard, Mike, and Rick Kent. Started in Wrightwood, up Acorn trail, Pine Mt, and Dawson. Returned by same route. A couple of inches of very cold & dry snow covered the whole area.
Route Climbed: Blue Ridge Date Climbed: November 6, 2005
What a great morning! Nice and cool, mostly cloudy, and just a little wind. Didn't see a single person either way including the continuation on to Dawson Peak. Could hear gun shots from the deer hunters in the vally to the west.
Route Climbed: Blue Ridge Date Climbed: June 12, 2005
Beutiful morning hike. Clear skies and perfect temp. for shorts and a tee. Only people seen were climbing Baldy's north ridge from Dawson peak. Still a lot of snow near the summit approach but had no problems without crampons. Great hike for a quickie in the morning or a late start.
Route Climbed: Other Devels Backbone Date Climbed: May 11, 2003
The gate to Blue Ridge Road was locked so I pedaled my bike the 8 miles or so over the soggy road to the trail head. It was well worth the extra effort. It was a great climb with perfect weather! Still plenty of snow on the mountain.
Route Climbed: Other Devil's Backbone Date Climbed: MAY-1991
Did this climb some time in May, 1991, I think. This was before the East Blue Ridge Road was closed at Guffy Camp. I drove to the Other Devil's Backbone trailhead on the southeast side of Wright Mountain. Hiked with full pack up to Pine Mountain, spent the night on the delightful summit, then day-hiked to Baldy the next day, returned for my pack and hiked out.
Route Climbed: Pine Mountain Ridge Date Climbed: November 23, 2002
My son, Matt, and I started out at Vincent Gap. We hiked down into Mine Gulch, then followed the creek to where Pine Mountain ridge comes down. We climbed up to the crest of the ridge at this point and followed big horn sheep trails to the summit. We caught glimpses of many big horn sheep along the way. After lunch at the summit, we hiked down the traditional backbone route, then the Acorn trail into Wrightwood and got a ride back to the car. A VERY tiring day. About 5500' of elevation gain and 17 miles total. We began the hike at 5:30 am and reached the Acorn trailhead just before 4:00.
Route Climbed: Blue ridge trail from Guffy Date Climbed: 07/september/2002
Wanted to make it all the way to baldy but ran out of time . i think i have a better idea of what to expect next go around. weather was windy fires on south flank of baden-powell.
