How much can you really say about socks? Regardless these are the best I have used in both the "standard hiker" and "light hiker". I actually like the thinner light hiker best, as the thicker ones seem to feel bulky under my feet. I always use a liner sock with either version sock in my hiking, mountaineering or cross-country skiing boots. The cuffs will wear out with a season of moderate wear, especially if your ankles are relatively skinnier than your calf muscles. They seem to dry at camp fairly quickly.
Also for downhill or tele skiing, consider the brand's knee high ski sock.

My everyday sock
I wind up wearing the light smartwool hikers every day. I really like them as they don't bunch up and my feet don't sweat. They are also nice for shorter hikes.
I hate the fact that smartwool stopped making the anklet version. If I had know they weren't going to be available any more, I would have bought many more pairs.

Great!
I like my Smartwool socks! I even wear them when I'm not hiking. Very comfortable and soft. I've never got a blister either!
