FTX Ultra Pant

An extremely tough and versatile pair of GoreTex pants with full side-zips. Ice axe and crampon encounters that leave 2 inch tears in many pants only leave small marks in these (less than 3 cm for me). 3-ply GoreTex also means that it can be easily repaired with SeamGrip - no messing with GoreTex patch kits, etc. Great for alpine climbing, skiing, etc. The cuffs are large enough to fit over alpine / downhill boots for resort skiing etc. I've owned these pants for 4 years and have worn them on many alpine climbs, ice climbs, and resort ski trips without ever desiring anything else. These have also effectively blocked 100+ mph winds while I was wearing only 2 pairs of synthetic long johns underneath - awesome. Also great for glissading.

Expensive, but after shredding and repairing my 2-ply pants many times, definately worth it. The best thing about these is that you can forget about them and simply not worry as to how they'll handle abuse. Full FTX Ultra fabric with 3-ply GoreTex is a great thing.

These pants are very tough. I punched a rusty crampon into my thigh while adjusting the size and and the point didn't penetrate the outer fabric. They have kept me warm ice climbing and belaying with only 1 pair midweight thermals underneath. They keep me cool while snowshoeing approaches. They are as light as can be for what they offer, with only features that you need (no pockets).



Worth looking for used pairs, because they are indestructible and are probably in very good condition.

I consider my pair very mountain worthy. Besides climbing uses--alpine & ice, I use them for skiing in Colorado. They are very durable having only minor crampon tears caused by my errors in boot placement. The full zips make them easy to put on and take off while allowing for easy temperature adjustments. Normally I only have to wear a midweight underwear with them. While they cost more than many jackets they are worth it.
