This was a good read Bob - I'm glad you called from White the next morning, as I was about 20 minutes from hopping in my car to go see if you made it out OK! I'm so glad you went on and made the summit and most importantly, that I hid the beers well enough :)
Thanks, Tim; I'm glad you liked it. Yeah, we should have made a plan before you left. If I'd been able to access Sunlight, then you likely would not have heard from me for another day and might have assumed the worst.
Yeah - I figured if I got out there and your car was where I left it I'd start looking for you; if it wasn't, I'd drive out to the road end and wait for you to get off Sunlight. It all worked out - the pizza, beer, and good conversation made for a great evening!
Awesome trip report. I would love to make this trek sometime this coming summer. I will be working in Yellowstone again and something about this mountain calls to me! I would do it as an overnight I think though.
If you go overnight, you might try via Dead Indian Meadows, which is quite longer but would be less painful. Carrying a pack up those spurs is not the least bit fun.
I love the feeling of attaining a highly sought-after summit. Great report Bob. I believe there is a fine line between perseverence and stubborness, to which it sounds like you may be able to relate. Either way, congrats on checking another one of your life list.

Yer...a tough man, Sihler!
I think my days of 18-mile hikes are over. I just can't push myself like that anymore.

Re: Terrific! Thanks. You never know, though. I know a guy in his 60s who puts in really long days in the mountains.
