Better after rain
Truly a challenging scramble up the scree and I think we were lucky to have come after a rain so the scree was a little more packed than normal. Overall a fun and rewarding hike that we were high-fiving all the way down!

Quick ascent via "standard" route
Up and back from Trail Canyon. Scree slope was tough, otherwise an enjoyable walk. Only saw one other hiker on the mountain.

Mummy Tummy
Early hike up trail canyon, beat the thunderstorm that developed around 1030am back to my car.
Some patchy snow along the bowl ridge between the scree slope and the notch, used micro spikes a couple times. Perfect conditions!

Probably last snow climb on Mummy for now
Considerable snow from 9000' up. No one above 10,250', so I broke trail from there to the summit. Warm temperatures later this week and the lateness of the season mean this was likely the last good snow climb on Mummy for now.

Looking for a lost crampon
Lost a crampon on the way down from my last ascent. Still a lot of snow above 11,000'. Didn't find the crampon though.

Snow from the trail head all the way to the summit. Significant snow above the scree field. A creepy traverse over suspect snow slopes. Crampons and ice ax. A rare event for the Spring Mountains, but a snow storm the day before, and another about a week prior put a lot of snow on the mountain.

Short rain and thunder squall. Hardly enough to even get wet.
Spring conditions. Mud and melting snow. Seventeenth ascent in three years. Time to get some elevation in!

Fletcher to Mummy
A challenging hike from the Fletcher Peak summit, up the steep south-facing scree to the crest, then northeast to Mummy's summit. A full day but a rewarding one. I admire this area.

Mummy Mountain
While making my ascent to Charleston Peak I debated making the detour to Mummy Mountain. I was very glad I did and it was well worth the extra effort. The route though the notch to the summit plateau was awesome with mixed snow and ice. Great views from up top in all directions.

First of many
A Spring Mountains monarch, with a couple of decent scrambling options once you ascend the scree slope from the North Loop trail. This is a great one to rope in as part of a three- or four-peak loop, along with Charleston, Griffith, Harris or Fletcher.
Snow conditions in Lee Canyon in the morning weren't too bad (not too much postholing) but we sunk in up to our waists on the way down in the afternoon. Mummy Mountain was almost completely free of snow except for the area where you go through the cliffs to the summit plateau. There was some ice and snow there, but it did not make it any more difficult. No crampons needed.

North Loop/Trail Canyon
3rd signature in the summit registry for 2013.
No snow left on the south facing scree slope, one small patch up on the ridge.

One of my favorite peaks
This was the first of three ascents in 2012, each from a different route. I'm not sure why, but I have an affinity for Mummy Mountain, and will be doing it again.

I wanted my Mummy.
It was a very hot day in the valley but much cooler in the Spring Mountains. The route is pretty staight forward but you may be pulling out your map and questioning things along the way. The long scree slope up is a pain but it is not as bad coming down as you may think. I was up in less than 3 hours and that was just a steady pace, not fast. Great day and was back at the pool by afternoon.
