Baldwin Canyon
We drove my Nissan Pathfinder as far into Baldwin Canyon as we could, then mountain biked almost all the way to the summit. We did encounter a locked gate when we entered the Hawthorne Army Depot, but there were no signs indicating we weren't welcome. A long day, but it was made considerably easier with the help of the mountain bikes. We were on roads the whole time.

long day~
Had a beautiful but long climb via Lapon Canyon. FYI~ we were hiking down and several military vehicles passed by on a nearby road. If they saw us, they didn't care.
My dad and I got the key from the depot and drove to about 900 feet below the summit, and made an easy dayhike from there. I visited the summit while he relaxed on the slopes. Obviously, logistically simpler pre-9/11.

Hiked up from the bottom of Lapon Canyon to the summit. Certainly one of the top 3 vistas I've encountered from a summit! The roads are currently closed by the military for security reasons, so no cheating is allowed!
