Untitled CommentI strongly recommend that Silverheels climbers access the mountain by the jeep road. It can be found just outside Fairplay. (It's Beaver Creek Road, I believe. It's also marked as a cross-country skiing trail.)
The jeep road will take you to the base of Silverheels, which will cut 2-3 hours of tough and not very fun bushwacking off the climb. (One guide calls the Hoosier Pass access route an easy family climb. Baloney!)
Approaching the mountain from the north side presents the best ascent.

4x4 road FS184 now permanently closedMust park at county road655/FS659. Permanent closure out in place on 4x4 road. This adds 2 miles roundtrip to hike if you were planning on getting higher up on 4x4 road.
