Thanksgiving Day  Sucess!

Drive up on Thanksgiving Day, thought about walking it, but not fond of hiking mountains where the road is the trail. Did however hike up the nearby Elk Mountain.

Route Climbed: SE Boulder Valley; Drove; Walked Hiway; Bicycled Down. Date Climbed: Many times since 1968  Sucess!

My first time to the top of this mountain was by car in the fall of 1968. Since then I have been to the top many times, including bouldering to the top via the boulder valley on the SE side of the mountain. Also walked up most of the way with a bike and biked down. I also remember when you could drive to the top at night. The view of Lawton and lights was great. Would love to snow ski down the road after a good snowfall.

This little peak has a lot of treasures. Many popular rock climbing lines and lots of fun boulder hopping.

Route Climbed: Auto Road Hike Date Climbed: 17 April 2004  Sucess!

I parked in the Mt. Scott picnic area near the base of the road and hiked the easy ~2 miles up to the summit. My Golden Retriever, Denali, was in attendance as well, and was able to scramble up onto the summit boulder by himself. Its nice to know that there are decent uphill hikes within 3-hours of DFW!

Route Climbed: Date Climbed: Many Times  Sucess!

This is a great little peak in Southern Oklahoma. I've used it many times for a quick conditioning climb. It is also a great winter climb. It has some nice bouldering areas. I suggest you visit Fort Sill, which is about a 20 minute drive from the mountain and get some of the history of this area before summitting. It will help you to enjoy some of the Indian History of this area as you view it from the summit.

Date Climbed: March 1988 (the first time)  Sucess!

One of the nicest climbing areas in the Midwest. The view from the top is one of the nicest surprises (who would figure in Oklahoma).
