Amazing Peak
Finally got to go up to Baldy, and it was worth it. I did it with the Run to the Top group and I have a great respect for this mountain now. My legs hurt...

Summer Half Day
Started from the road onto the Ski Hut Trail around 6:30am on a Thursday. Nice and shady for the first two hours, and probably ran into less than 10 people the whole way. The top was completely empty for the half hour we stayed at the summit. Enough light breeze to keep the sun bearable, and doused our heads in the waterfall on the way back. Same trail down for a total of about 6 hours.

Wilderness Experience?
The hike itself was great. Beautifull weather, good temps., and a well-maintained trail that didn't just give up the summit. At first I was a little upset that there were so many people out there. Sure I could have just gotten up earlier and I might have had the trail more to myself. However, as I made my way up, over, and down the other side, I observed people of all shapes, sizes, ages, etc. along the trails, on the peak, making an effort not just to get out and enjoy the outdoors (like me) but to take on a physical challenge that many (I imagine) were not sure they could accomplish when they started out. Congrat's to all of you who hiked (whether you summited or not) Baldy on July 27th, 2008!!!
Hiked in from Manker Flats via the register ridge trail. First time on that trail. Definitely a challenge, but its a great way to avoid the crowds on the trail. Did Harwood on the way and down the ski hut trail on the way back.

10 times between 1984 and 2007. From Bear Flats, Ski Hut trail, Manker Flats to Baldy Notch, Blue Ridge. I have had the summit to myself, and shared it with 100 others.
Went with the family, great way to get above the smog.

Don't do this at night in winter
After being very kind to two stupid, inexperienced hiker-climbers, Baldy let us summit her after spanking us pretty bad on a crazy, snowy attempt in the dark. Learn - and live!

Baldy Bowl
My first snow climb. Climbed to the skihut and went up the right side of the bowl. Had beautiful weather and only saw two other folks the whole day. Clouds covering the valley floor made for some great views! Excellent snow conditions in the bowl. It took 8 hours round trip. Not bad for a couple flatlanders eh?
