Sawtooth!
Did Evans after crossing the Sawtooth ridge form Bierstadt. Also saw some mountain goats and only a couple fo people until we hit the zoo...I mean the summit. I am not sure I agree with people signing the summit register who drove it up.

The Horror
The road to the top brings a lot of humanity with it. Big horns and mountain goats intermingle and pose for pictures at the top.

Twice in a day
This was done early in conjunction with a summit of Spalding from Guanella Pass, then later in the day by car. One scoffs at the latter, but it's kind of an interesting experience. There are all types of folks up there on a crowded holiday weekend.

Winter ascent from Echo
Cut one switchback down low, then a long, windy, 5 mile slog up the road to the standard n.e. slopes route. Congrats to Steve Gladbach who becomes only the 4th person to complete the CO 14ers in calendar winter. Strong group of folks to be out with!

From Echo Lake
This was a huge day. Steve Gladbach finished climbing Colorado's Fourteeners per winter today!!!!! He's the 4th person to do so.
Was privledged to accompany him up Evans through some brutal winds alongside his brother, Bill, Mark, Greg, Darin Baker, Kevin Baker and Sarah Thompson.
A sunny but ~18 mile RT day with excellent people!

Tourist Trap
Evans via Bierstadt and Sawtooth. Remind me to never climb another mountain that has a paved road all the way to the top. Battled several van loads of tourists trying to find the "high point" after spending over 5 hours getting there. Would recommend just stopping at the West Summit to enjoy the views. Its only a few feet lower in altitude, and will probably be empty.

Four times, three routes
9/20/03 - Sawtooth Traverse from Mount Bierstadt (started at Guanella Pass).
1/2/11 - Windy winter ascent from Echo Lake.
2/28/11 - Another windy ascent from Echo Lake, this time with Steve Gladbach as he made history by becoming the 4th person to complete Colorado's 14ers in winter! Slipped on some ice on the road during the descent and my sunglasses cut up my face when I faceplanted... requiring 11 stitches.
3/7/15 - From the Guanella Pass north side closure with a fun group of 10 friends. Bluebird winter day, shockingly dry up high despite recent major storms.

Hiked up to Summit Lake from the trailhead at Echo Lake and past the Chicago Lakes. Summited Spalding and Evans.
Also my first 14er (and second Colorado summit behind Spalding)

Fun scramble
When given a half day, we headed up some ramps and a gully on the north face of Mt. Evans. There were a few fun 4th class moves at the top. Mt. Spalding was an easy bag on the hike out.
Great loop. Decended through the willows, which wasn't all that much fun. Luckily it wasn't too wet, but it wasn't too hard to imagine. When coming down the gully, the cars sure do look far away.
