"Got tight last night on absinthe and did knife tricks. Great success shooting the knife into the piano. The woodworms are so bad and eat hell out of all furniture that you can always claim the woodworms did it."

Up Blaurock / Down ErvinI parked about a mile up from Winfield along the 4wd road. Felt great getting up Blaurock, but became nauseated back at the saddle. Even with a few long breaks, my stomach never settled - making the rest slow-going. Plus, that ridge down from Ervin is more involved and requires more attention than the ridge up Blaurock.

From 13,686Climbed the steep SE ridge of 13,686 with my Boston Terrier, traversed over to Blaurock but skipped Ervin as the pup was tired.

Very memorable dayClimbed from 4WD road just west of Winfield. Horrible winter-like weather fully tested our character. Ervin's west ridge and Blaurock's SE ridge were trickier than expected with snow. My first climb with the famous Ken Nolan.

Climbing Partners LoopLoop climb; Ervin via Grey Cooper to Blaurock to PT 13686 and down the south ridge to the LaPlata South trail. Some fun exposure on Ervin's surpisingly rugged ridge, even a little class 3 scrambling tossed in. Nice morning but it clouded up early and started to snow a little on descent. Very minimal winter snow remains on the ridge, and no snow gear is required, not even gaitors.

Route Climbed: South Ridge Date Climbed: May 23, 2005Mount Blaurock makes for a really nice early season climb. There really is no standard route, you kind of pick a steep ridge and go with it. The views are great and with good weather the ridge run to UN13,686 is really worth it.
