Took the McGee Pass trail to a little past the large spring creek 1.75mi. up. Then skirted the aspens, like when skiing and gained the upper cirque. Gained the saddle at the top of the the NE couloir and followed the E ridge to the S ridge. Mostly 2nd and 3rd class with a little 4th and few 5th class moves just for fun. Followed the S ridge to the summit. Descended the S ridge to a bit lower than the E ridge to a line I considered ascending. Downclimbed a 4th class corner to limestone face and traversed 5th class face to a dark diagonal dike which led back to the E ridge just above the saddle. Exited via Baldwin Canyon staying left and traversing down the W side of the canyon to gain the trial just above the creek crossing. Eleven miles and 5k vert.

From Mildred Lake
Standard route. Great weather. The creek crossing was fairly tame given the time of year. Looked like a more feasible option for a future bridge crossing at about 80 ft. downstream where the current one is.

Convict Canyon to West slopes
Excellent hike, very interesting geology. I found a use trail all the way to the summit, and only encountered one class 2 move (use of hands for balance). Highly recommended. 9h15 car to car with a generous top on the summit. Trip report
With DR. Took a bit over 6 hours to reach the summit from Convict lake. Nearly took the wrong chute descending from the summit plateau. Unique sierra scenery - very colorful.

via the mine trail
Day 6 Alt Sierra Challenge 2013 with Laura. Fun Class 3 climb up to Bright Dot Lake before catching the mine trail to the top and returning via Mildred Lake. Pictures & Story
Followed a use trail from Bright Dot Lake to the mine and then most of the way to the summit.

Convict Lake via Mildred Lake
Dayhike starting at Convict Lake via Mildred Lake. Crossing Convict Creek required taking off my shoes because of very slippery rocks, but otherwise wasn't difficult. I saw a rabbit above the calcite mine at around 12,100' which was unexpected. Pretty great views from the summit.

From Bright Dot Drainage
A killer summit view. Hiked up the Bright dot lake drainage to gain the summit then descended into the Mildred lake basin. About a 17 mile round trip.

Day hike from Convict Lake
Six hours from the day-use parking lot at Convict Lake to the summit via "standard route", solo. Convict Creek was tame and easy to cross. Amazing t-shirt weather at the top on the last day of September! About twenty-five parties visited the peak this season so far. As calipidder says (below), the steep, slippery chute just below the mine is somewhat sketchy. Other than that, a couple of fair 'use trails' get you from Mildred almost to the summit. Trip report.

From Mildred Lake
Really fun peak with unique scenery - the moonscape plateau felt more like Death Valley than the Sierra. Only sketchiness was just below the calcite mine - went up the sandy track and down the solid rock. Should have done the reverse.
Climbing the slabs to the summit redeemed the day.

3rd time's the charm
Failed twice before, once on the east face because I was too scared, and once on the west face because I was too tired. Finally made it up with son Stephen, who wanted to see the crystals, and brother Jon.

Sloggity SlogOther than the scenery and calcite, the trek from Convict Lake to summit was too sloggy, was hoping for more scrambling.
