The limiting factor that determines tree line is not lack of oxygen. Trees make oxygen. The limiting factor is liquid water. Tree line occurs where it is too cold for too much of the year for water to be in liquid form long enough to support large vegetation. Tree line varies in altitude throughout the world, depending upon ambient temperatures.
