Looking into the basin...

Looking into the basin leading to Gunsight Pass from my campsite on the morning of June 7, 2002. From Henrys Fork Basin, this is the standard route to Kings Peak. There is a trail all the way to the pass but, due to snow in the rather secluded basin, it may hard to find it in Spring conditions. The basin is sort of sunken in the middle with blocks and talus. Hard snow filled this trough. I actually found it quite icy in the morning hours. Then in the afternoon on the return I kept plunging through. What's new? You'd never guess from this picture that the terrain in that basin would be so "complex," if that's the word for it. Gunsight Peak is to the left; West Gunsight is to the right.
