Langtang Valley
I first visited Nepal in 1991. After doing the Annapurna Circuit, I wanted to climb an easy peak. The Langtang Valley is easily reached from Katmandu and a few days trekking took me up among the peaks of the Langtang Himal.
I remember Langtang as one of the most beautiful mountain valleys I have visited. I started off by soloing the East Ridge of Naya Kanga, which is an interesting alternative to the normal Northeast Face route. Next I came close on Langshisa Ri, my way barred by a large crevasse. Still, it was an enjoyable climb. Particularly memorable was a bivouac alone high on the mountain as I watched the evening light fade on Dorje Lakpa in a blaze of colour.
