And even greater experience? Given that you came out alive and with ten toes at least... I just discovered your page and will probably be busy for another few hours reading about your trips and looking at all those awesome pictures. Good stuff.
And I your still alive to boot! I was full of laughs and sheer terror reading your report. Inspiring. This would make an awesome book if you could remember more details.
Thanks!
I always try to live my dreams. Perhaps there will be a book one day, about this episode in combination with a lot of others. I just have to find the ambition to do it.
Hi, this TR is probably my favorite one on this site. Combining cycling and climbing is something that I love, and this trip was incredible to read about. I am planning a year in Patagonia, and this type of story is very inspirational to me. Thanks!
Thanks for the positive feedback. I'm sure you'll have a nice time in Patagonia. Just make sure you pick the right direction according to the season. Biking the "wrong way" against the winds of Patagonia can be awful.
Good thing there weren't locals around while exploring Kaymakli
"Cappadocia contains several underground cities (see Kaymakl? Underground City), largely used by early Christians as hiding places before Christianity became an accepted religion. The underground cities have vast defence networks of traps throughout their many levels. These traps are very creative, including such devices as large round stones to block doors and holes in the ceiling through which the defenders may drop spears. These defense systems were mainly used against the Romans. The tunnel system also was made to have thin corridors for the Roman fighting strategy was to move in groups which was not possible to do in the thin corridors making it easy to pick them off."
Re: Good thing there weren't locals around while exploring Kaymakli
A long time since I had a look at this page... and every time I do memories are coming back. Most of them good, but some from Kaymakli still give me nightmares.
Have you posted any "stove photos" anywhere yet?
:)
I spent time in Cappadocia back in 2001 and it is a wonderous place. Having been there I can admire just climbing around in those caves with no guides or anything like that..
