Re: LakeThe opposite slope faces North, Yatsek. Of course it would be too cold for the trees. The summit is over 4,000 m high anyway, you'd need to move it to the tropics to have any trees there :)

Re: LakeOK where've the bushes or at least grasses gone? Is it easier for trees to take roots in this rock? Hard quarzite maybe?

It isn't the rockthe trees colonize quartzites perfectly well at lower altitudes. No, it is the climate, too long winter, too frozen soils for the trees to thrive.

Re: It isn't the rockMisunderstood. I was asking if it's possible that the rock makes it easier for trees and pretty hard for smaller plants with shorter roots to grow.
