Happy New Year!  Sucess!

After getting off from work, drove from Austin to Guadalupe Mtns NP, and slept in the cab of my truck. Got on the trail at 4:30 AM just in time for sunrise at the summit.

One hour up to Texas' highest point!  Sucess!

Drove 55 miles west from Carlsbad. Beautiful morning. I could see Guadalupe's range at my right side and the Texas plains to the left.

Started from the Trailhead (Parking Lot) at 11:00 am. I hiked the well marked trail up to the summit. Lots of hikers for a monday. Got to the summit (2,667 m/8,749 ft) at 12:04 pm.
Took a few shots and headed back to the Jeep.

Amazing views of Guadalupe Mountains and Texas basin from the top.

My 3rd US HP!.

Triple...  Sucess!

Training up for hard hike in January, so I managed to put in three loops to top in one day (2h 58m; 3h 26m; 3h 16m)... not boring at all; I love that trail. Going back over in December to try for four loops in one day. Went back November 8th just to enjoy the views, very nice.

HP #1  Sucess!

Began before sunrise and the views were more beautiful than I'd imagined from the descriptions! Observed four deer and one rabbit. My 18yob, 14yog, and 11yog, along for the hike. Windy, clear, and the views never ended. Can't wait for the next highpoint and would love to return to Guadalupe for a repeat of the summit, as well as other climbs.

Perfect weather, great views  Sucess!

We started hiking around 4 pm just as the winds really picked up. After many stops to take pictures, we arrived at camp just after dark. The cool, windy night gave way to a warm, calm, and sunny morning - perfect summit weather. With no clouds in the sky, we had endless views over the desert floor below. The whole hike was very scenic. I'm just glad it wasn't hotter, because I took 5 liters of water and it wasn't enough. HP17

Guadalupe  Sucess!

I headed up Guadalupe this past spring with two good friends. We had a great hike, camped out near the summit, and headed for the top to watch the sunrise. All in all a great trip!

I highly recommend reading passages from the Tao Te Ching as the sun sets.

COLD !  Sucess!

The hike started off comfortable but when we got above El Capitan it was so cold and windy that I couldn't feel my face so I did not really enjoy the summit. I just wanted down.

Texas Sized Super-Fun  Sucess!

Fun quick hike. Surprised to see no snow or ice at all. Got cold very quickly on the summit.

Not bad for Texas  Sucess!

OOPS I took the wrong trail for a couple of miles. Went back to the car, and started again. Great summit. A little icey.

Good Times  Sucess!

I climbed this beautiful mountain in 2006. I under estimated this mountain, but still made it. We were stormed on, but that made it that much more exciting. Your pictures are great and beautiful to look at.

Great Views

Too bad we didn't see any - it was foggy and raining the whole way up and most of the way down. Maybe next time.

Tumble Weed  Sucess!

After spending a windy night below where every tent in the campground was wrecked except mine, a fabric tube tent, we awoke covered in dust. We climbed the draw to the north of El Cap then on to the summit which wasn't too windy and rather pleasent.

Close call  Sucess!

I forget the exact date. I almost screwed myself descending off-trail down a canyon. The rappel slings should have been a dead giveaway. There I was downclimbing what felt like 5.9 fifty feet off the deck.

Late Start  Sucess!

Got on the trail with 4 others a little late in the day which meant coming down in the dark. Wasn't to bad though and the views were great, mostly undisturbed. Met up with some sort of cat on the way down but scared it off.
