ForumThis issue is worth taking seriously, and more people might respond if you post this in the forum. A problem is that people get Power Points for reviews no matter what the quality; some (many) just copy manufacturers' descriptions or from the back of a book.

Gear Page vs Gear ReviewAllow me to make a distinction between a Gear Page and a Gear Review, as they are not the same.
A Gear Page should contain a description from the manufacturer, IMO. The default categories when you click on Add Gear are "Product Description" and "Features". That information should be taken directly from the manufacturer's website, rather than have people attempt to describe the product from scratch and quite likely do a poor job of it.
The individual Gear Reviews by members are where people should add their own personal description of, experience with, and opinion of the product.
Both Gear Pages and Gear Reviews should be well written and detailed, or not at all.

NoteworthyThis post here, makes a lot of sense
I have not encountered specific problems with GearReview yet, but more important for me is THE OPINION THAT SP MEMBERS POST ABOUT THE SPECIFIC GEAR ITEMS
I trust SP members' personal experience more than any other website review "experts"
Mountaineering/Climbing gear is by far not CHEAP, so investing wise is very important for those mortal Non-Rockfellers
And personal experience aids more than hazy reviews from "experts"
